The authorities in Cabo Delgado announced on Wednesday (29) the seizure of 84 pieces of ironwood that were being illegally transported from the Quissanga district to a timber yard in the Montepuez district..

They were being transported in a truck belonging to a Chinese citizen. Three Mozambican citizens were arrested in connection with the seizure.

Quoted by Revista Terra, SERNIC's spokeswoman in Cabo Delgado, Noémia João, said, at the presentation of three indicted men, that the trio was found in an area of the Quirimbas National Park, operating in an unauthorized zone.

"These individuals had a license to explore in the Meluco district and were found in the Quissanga district," he said.

This is the first seizure of wood made public this year by the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) in Cabo Delgado.
