Autoridade Tributária launches campaign to regularize illegal vehicles

Autoridade Tributária lança campanha de regularização de veículos ilegais

The Tax Authority (AT) launched, this Monday, a campaign to regularize illegal vehicles in circulation in the country. This process may culminate with the legalization of more than two thousand vehicles.

Considering the financial difficulties of Mozambicans, the AT will apply subsidized prices to interested parties, and is expected to raise 300 million meticais.

This massive and voluntary regularization process will end on December 16th of this year and, after the deadline, "the AT will apply the law to the cars that continue to circulate illegally", according to the AT's Deputy Director-General, Fernado Alage.

The campaign targets, above all, owners who have imported vehicles without observing the formalities required in the normal import process, and on the other hand, who have had them in the national territory for more than 30 days, with no intention of returning them to their origin, so that they can regularize them, without incurring the penalties provided for in the customs legislation.

"We include vehicles, tractors, boats and motorcycles in this process. We would like to have zero unregulated vehicles circulating on our roads, so this activity will have replicas throughout the country," he said.

To make the process more comprehensive, in addition to the provincial Customs services, mobile units will be created to work in the districts, localities, and villages.

In all these places, as you indicated, specialized technicians will be present who will work on the valuation of the vehicles and other institutions that contribute to the clearance such as the National Institute of Road Transport (INATRO) and customs brokers.
