Local elections/Kampfumu: Renamo won't run in the elections until the STAE directors have been dismissed

Autárquicas/Kampfumu: Renamo não vai concorrer às eleições enquanto não forem demitidos os directores do STAE

The Renamo party will not run again in the local elections in some polling stations in Maputo city as long as the directors of the State Administration Technical Secretariat (STAE) and election commission chairmen involved in the October 11 electoral fraud remain.

"We will not accept any result of this nature and we will not accept going to the elections with the same people who were responsible for falsifying the results and committing electoral crimes," warned Venâncio Mondlane.

Renamo is calling on the Attorney General's Office to arrest and bring criminal charges against the election directors involved in the fraud. "... and the National Electoral Commission must quickly remove all of them administratively, placing new people on the basis of a consensus so that we can move on to the next stages. Other than that, we'll go to the last consequences."

Renamo submitted appeals to courts in five districts, Kampfumu, Nlhamankulu, Kamavota, Kamaxaquene and Kamubucuana. In the appeals, the Renamo candidate said that the forgeries of the edicts and minutes presented were proven.

"The electoral law clearly states that criminal liability is more serious when the criminal acts are committed by agents of electoral bodies," he said, stressing that, because the courts are aware of this, "these agents must leave office immediately".

Speaking to the press this morning, the party's list leader for Maputo municipality named the names linked to the electoral fraud detected at the respective polling stations.

These are the Provincial Director of STAE in Maputo City, Pascoal Zunguze; the President of the Provincial Electoral Commission, Ana Chemane; the District Director of STAE, Rui Janeiro, and the President of the District Electoral Commission, Francisco Livele, both from the municipal district of Kampfumo; the District Director of STAE, Afonso Pelembe, and [no role indicated] Rafael Bernardo, from Kamavota; the President of the District Electoral Commission, Vasco Lança, the District Director of STAE, Beatriz Ubisse, from Kamaxaquene; [no role indicated] Sérgio Mucavele, and the President of the District Electoral Commission, Cassiano da Silva, from Nlhamankulu; and, the District Director of STAE, Rodrigues Bambo, and the President of the District Electoral Commission, Dércio Macamo, from Kamubucuana.
