Local elections 2023: Court annuls and orders repeat vote in 64 Nlhamankulu polling stations

Autárquicas 2023: Tribunal anula e ordena repetição de votação em 64 assembleias de Nlhamankulu

The Nlhamankulu District Court, in Maputo city, decided on Tuesday night to annul the votes of 64 assemblies and repeat the voting process. At first, a recount of the votes had been ordered. The district has around 100,000 voters.

The measure comes as a result of the detection of 42 falsified editas. But also because of a legal challenge filed by Renamo. The party claims that it won the elections in Maputo city with 53% votes.

The judge believes there is a criminal matter, so she ordered a copy of the report to be sent to the public prosecutor's office.

Just yesterday, the Kampfumu Court ordered the annulment of the ballot and the criminal prosecution of the members of the Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration. More than 48,000 voters are registered in the district.

On the same day, at a press briefing, the spokesman for the National Electoral Commission, Paulo Cuinica, said that polling station staff involved in electoral misconduct would be punished appropriately.

The annulment of the interim results in Kampfumu and Nlhamankulo have already allowed the change in the interim results announced by the CPE on Saturday (14), which gave victory to Frelimo.

A decision is expected this Wednesday on the similar situation in the Ka-Mubucuane district, which has more than 215,000 registered voters, second only to the Ka-Mavota district with around 220,000 voters. Sources: TV Sucesso/STV Notícias.
