For Renamo, the results presented by the District Electoral Commissions, which give victory to the ruling party, Frelimo, in 64 of the 65 municipalities, are the product of "mega fraud".

According to the Mais Integridade consortium, which brings together various civil society organizations, Renamo sees in these alleged frauds a strategy by the President of the Republic and Frelimo to perpetuate power through a third term.

"Renamo accuses President Nyusi and the Frelimo party of orchestrating the manipulation of the election results with a view to "creating an atmosphere of war in order to remain in power illegitimately", it said, quoting a statement from the party.

According to the consortium's electoral bulletin, Renamo points to various irregularities in the electoral process. Read more...

"Renamo considers that in the face of this scenario of an authentic denial of free, fair and transparent elections, and of the truth expressed at the polls 'not to accept and repudiate all the election results that are being released' and will file appeals with the competent institutions," the bulletin states, noting that "Renamo's demonstration will coincide with the date of the death of its founder, André Matsangaiça."
