Aurora Psico launches her first novel "Ruth" today

It is launched this afternoon (23), in Maputo city, the novel "Ruth", a work by Aurora Psico that invites the reader to reflect on family and social life.

The work "Rute, according to the newspaper "Notícias", marks the debut of this academic and social activist, was prefaced by the lawyer Benvinda Levi, who will present the work on the occasion, and Tomás Mabuiangue, who will address the biography of the author.

The event will be enhanced by the voice and guitar of musician Roberto Chitsondzo and the staging of actress Lucrécia Paco.

It will also be attended by the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Edelvina Materrula, and by sociologist and poet José Cezerilo, who will give the introductory notes, and the secretary-general of the Mozambican Writers' Association (AEMO), Carlos Paradona.

With "Rute," writes Benvinda Levi in the preface, Aurora Psico gets into the debate about the loss of cultural identity of the Mozambicans, whose understanding lies in phenomena such as the assimilation policy (in the colonial period), associated with the fight against tribalism and regionalism, as well as the promotion of national unity with the adoption, after Independence, of Portuguese as the official language.

Benvinda Levi believes that the characters Ruth (the protagonist) and Mascarenhas are an example of several young people who, in the name of love, were forced to make extreme decisions, "violating the social rules established for the constitution of a family" and "thus dishonoring their parents, who carry this sorrow with them for life, creating a disruption in the family.
