Voices calling for the resignation of the Minister of Education and Human Development are increasing

A week after the Minister of Education and Human Development, Carmelita Namashulua, withdrew the sixth grade Social Science textbook from circulation for errors considered serious and dismissed two officials, many voices are being raised to demand that she make her position available to the President of the Republic.

"The minister should resign, because these errors constitute a great harm to Mozambican society" considers sociologist and political analyst Moisés Mabunda to VOA.

For Mabunda, when an entire society is hurt and shaken, "I think that we, humanly, should feel guilty, apologize, and walk away, because this damage inflicted on society, is extremely serious."

The also political analyst Hilário Chacate says it is inelegant the attitude of the minister to dismiss the director of the National Institute for Education Development, Ismael Nhêze, and the spokesperson for the Ministry of Education and Human Development, Gina Guibunda, emphasizing that this is not relevant.

Chacate says that the minister "should have the courage to come out and say that I put my place at her disposal, she would walk out the big door if she did that, but while she is exonerating others, since she is the one most responsible for this problem, I don't think that solves the problem.

For his part, political analyst Ilídio de Sousa believes that the attempt to put errata in the textbooks, "and then have the Minister of Education say that the whole book needs to be torn up, shows that there is a major lack of coordination.

"The minister should be very cautious, because running with people while there is a commission of inquiry that is working, this means that she is already making the decision, which is inelegant," considers Sousa.

Meanwhile, for the also political analyst Gustavo Mavie, the Minister of Education and Human Development is being unfairly attacked because she is a leader and not an executive.

In addition to having the director of the National Institute for Education Development and the spokesperson for the Ministry of Education and Human Development, Carmelita Namashulua, suspended, he also suspended the entire Board of Schoolbook Evaluation.
