Farewell, Pascoal Mocumbi

Até sempre, Pascoal Mocumbi

The remains of the former Prime Minister of Mozambique, Pascoal Mocumbi, were buried today. The Head of State was represented by the President of the Assembly of the Republic, Esperança Bias.

Bias said during his speech that the country had lost one of its best sons, a dedicated and methodical leader.

Pascoal Mocumbi's final farewell took place in Independence Square, at Maputo's City Hall, in the presence of family members, friends, members of the government, politicians, doctors, academics and others.

Given the important role he played in the country's history and in the formation of the Frelimo Party, Pascoal Mocumbi had an official funeral ceremony, so his urn was covered with the national flag.

Visibly shaken, Pascoal Mocumbi's family describe him as someone with a great sense of humor, a freedom fighter who managed to reconcile work and family life.

The remains of the former prime minister were buried in the Lhanguene cemetery in Maputo City.

It should be noted that from midnight today there will be two days of national mourning. And during this period of mourning, the National Flag and the Presidential Pavilion will be hoisted at half-mast throughout the national territory and in the diplomatic and consular missions of the Republic of Mozambique.
