Attacks/Nampula: Memba residents begin to return home

Ataques/Nampula: Residentes de Memba começam a voltar para casa

Residents of the Memba district in Nampula province, who had abandoned their homes due to the recent terrorist attacks in the Chipene Administrative Post, began returning to their homes on Wednesday.

According to Rádio Moçambique, which quotes the Administrator of Memba, Juma Assane, the local authorities have already provided transportation for the withdrawal of refugee families in Nacala-a-Velha and Nacala Porto.

The Administrator assured that at this moment security has been re-established by the Security Forces who are monitoring the situation on the ground.

However, Juma Assane showed concern that there are citizens expropriating the property of people who have not yet reached their residences.

"This is a situation that concerns us greatly, hence we appeal to the population to return home. Right now, our force is already on the ground and we appeal to public servants to be present in their sectors," said Assane, for whom "there is no reason for them to be absent."

Recently, the Secretary of State of Nampula, Mety Gondola was in Memba district where he appealed to the security authorities to keep in touch with the population.
