AT to tax and track mobile wallet transactions

From next year Mozambique will start taxing mobile wallet operations and tracking internal and external transactions, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance, Carla Louveira, said on Friday.

The aim of this measure, she said, is to ensure that it is operational and to increase revenue for the state.

As of next November, a pilot phase is planned to carry out tests on the Control and Taxation of Online Transactions in the Tourism Sector.

"We therefore hope that from 2024 onwards the AT will effectively start taxing the digital economy, and a proof-of-concept pilot on the control and taxation of online transactions in the tourism sector is already planned for next month," said the deputy minister.

Louveira was speaking on Friday during the opening of the 4th Scientific Conference of the Tax Authority (AT), which took place under the theme "The Mozambican Tax System in the Age of the Digital Economy".
