The National Association of Teachers of Mozambique (ANAPRO) is considering declaring a work stoppage in solidarity with the teachers who have been subjected to "compulsory transfers" by the government.
According to the president of ANAPRO, Isac Marrengule, these transfers act as "psychological repression" against teachers who are protesting against delays in the payment of overtime and calling for better conditions for the profession.
Cited by VOAMarrengule warns that the executive's war is also causing teacher absenteeism, with many of them being transferred to schools far from where they live.
Faced with this situation, ANAPRO presented its proposal for overcoming the problem at a meeting with the Minister of Education, Samaria dos Anjos Tovela, who promised to work towards a solution.
"We see this as persecution and intimidation of the teachers' revolutionary action, a declaration of war, and if the Ministry is declaring war, we will do the same," the trade unionist warns.
