"People will always be smarter than artificial intelligence," says Microsoft

“As pessoas vão ser sempre mais inteligentes do que a inteligência artificial”, garante Microsoft

After all, chatbots with artificial intelligence (AI) won't be able to outsmart people, because they need "human understanding", in the sense that it's people who tell them what to do.

This is the opinion of a Microsoft expert, Yusuf Mehdi, expressed in an interview with an Efe journalist, Sarah Yáñez-Richards.

The company's vice president and director of consumer marketing at Microsoft was thus responding to the alarms raised by various industry experts about the rapid advance of AI and the danger that it could get out of control.

For the Microsoft expert, "the essence of AI is to predict text and what comes next". "But it needs human understanding. Humans are the ones who connect with AI and tell it what to do," he said.

The expert attributes the fear of AI partly to its novelty, which became popular with the launch of OpenIA's ChatGPT six months ago, as well as the announcements of AI chatbots on Edge and Google's search engines, Bing and Bard respectively, three months ago.

In addition, Yusuf Mehdi stressed that, "we have to go through this cycle of understanding technology (...) and, as we learn more, I think those fears will pass".
