The Bazaruto Archipelago in southern Mozambique is the Best Island Resort in Africa and the Indian Ocean, according to luxury travel magazine "Condé Nast Traveller" in its November issue.
Before revealing the world's most popular destinations, the publication polled hundreds of thousands of its readers for the "Readers' Choice Awards 2021," which elects the best hotels and resorts on every continent, including Australia. The Bazaruto Archipelago stood on the podium in the category "The 15 Best Islands in the World".
Seven different criteria were taken into consideration: rooms, service, food, design, location, activities/facilities, and value. Each was scored on a scale of one to five and standardized as a hundred-value mark.
The Bazaruto Archipelago got a score of 98.20, above Zanzibar (95.19), Seychelles (94.71), Maldives (94.40), and Mauritius (94.25).
This is not the first time Condé Nast Traveller has praised Bazaruto. In 2016, it chose the "andBeyond" Resort on Benguerra Island, on the archipelago's second largest island, as the Best New Hotel in Africa.
The Bazaruto Archipelago is a protected marine conservation area offering pristine sandy beaches and coral reefs. It is one of the few places where there is a population of the rare marine mammal, the dugong.
