The Regional Water Administration of the Center (ARA-Centro) yesterday predicted rising water levels in the basins of the Zambezi, Púngoè, Búzi and Savane rivers, warning of the possibility of localized flooding with impact on access roads, infrastructure and agricultural fields.
According to the institution's statement, in the previous 24 hours moderate, strong and locally very strong rains were recorded along the rainfall observation network of the Púngoè and Savane river basins, especially in Beira, Dondo, Gorongosa village, Muanza and Nhamatanda, in Sofala, including Chimoio, in Manica.
ARA-Centro also warned of the probability of continued moderate to heavy and locally very heavy rainfall, with more than 100 millimeters in 24 hours, accompanied by gusts, in Nampula, Zambezia, Manica and Sofala.
The same warning states that this may affect the Zambezi river basin, in the sub-basins of the Chire and Zambezi rivers, with a high risk of flooding.
The Zambezi floods are expected to affect, in Sofala, the districts of Cheringoma, Marínguè, Chemba, Caia and Marromeu, while in Manica province they may affect Guro, Tambara and Macossa. In Zambezia, the districts of Derre, Morrumbala, Milange, Nicoadala, Luabo, Chinde, Mopeia and Quelimane were listed.
In the Púngoè river basin, there is a moderate risk of flooding in Nhamatanda, Gorongosa and Beira in Sofala province, Báruè, Vandúzi and Macossa in Manica, while in the Búzi basin the districts of Manica, Sussundenga, Macate, Mossurize and Chimoio in Manica could be at risk.
On the other hand, in the Zambezi river basin, traffic will continue to be restricted on the Mopeia-Luabo, Morrumbala - Chire administrative post and Derre-Nicoadala roads.
Urban flooding is also expected, with the neighborhoods of Mungassa, Vaz, Ndunda, Munhava, Chota, Manganhe 1 and 2, Manga-Mascarenhas, Chingussura, Inhamízua, Nhaconjo, Maraza, Vila Massane, Tchonja, Chaimite (Praia Nova), and Matadouro in Beira City standing out.
á in Quelimane are the peripheral neighborhoods 7 de Abril, Coalane II A, Coalane II B, Icidua, Ivagalane, Miranzane, Inhangome, Filipe Samuel Magaia, Aeroporto, Liberdade, Chuabo Dembe, Piloto, Manhaua A, Manhaua B, Micajune A and Micajune B.
Therefore, ARA-Centro appeals to all public and private entities, local authorities, economic agents and the general public to take precautionary measures. It is advised to withdraw from flood risk areas, not to drive in flooded areas and not to cross riverbeds.
