The US Federal Trade Commission could soon file a lawsuit opposing Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard, reports site Politico citing sources close to the regulator.

The publication, also quoted by Notícias ao Minuto, says that the decision is not final, but that it is "likely" that a lawsuit will be filed to block the deal. The site adds that the "staff of the Federal Trade Commission analyzing the deal is skeptical of the companies' arguments".

It's worth remembering that Microsoft's purchase of Activision Blizzard has been subject to equal scrutiny in the UK and the EU.

The aim of the regulators has been to try to assess the impact that the acquisition of the publisher of series such as 'Call of Duty' and 'World of Warcraft' would have on the video games industry, especially on Microsoft's rivals such as Sony and its PlayStation.
