Amazon considers launching new "Prime Day" to counteract consumption drop

Amazon pondera lançar novo “Prime Day” para contrariar quebras no consumo

Amazon is considering launching a new "Prime Day" to address declines in consumer spending, repeating a successful July 12-13 measure where Jeff Bezos' company managed to sell 300 million products that analysts estimate resulted in revenue of nearly 12 billion euros.

According to "El Economista", quoted by the newspaper Económico, this event would be called the "Amazon Prime Early Access Sale" so that the retailer can counter the impact that inflation has been having on sales in the sector.

Although its second-quarter results showed above-expected revenues of more than €118 million, other industry giants, such as Walmart, have been cutting their profit forecasts due to the effect that rising prices may have on customers' spending habits.

"Amazon Prime Day" originated in 2015, ten years after the creation of the Amazon Prime subscription service, which offers customers benefits on deals and other services, and two decades after the birth of the company.

Although it did not disclose the number of subscribers, Amazon reported in April 2021 that it had surpassed 200 million Amazon Prime customers worldwide.
