Around 2,000 pupils will now study in more decent conditions, with the inauguration of a new five-classroom school in the Matsinho administrative post, Vanduzi district, in Manica province, central Mozambique.
The classrooms are spread over two blocks. The school also has administrative services, as well as toilets and a water supply system.
The building is properly equipped with desks and cost around 14 million meticais (around 218,000 dollars), disbursed by the Mozambican state.
The governor of Manica province, Francisca Tomás, who inaugurated the school block on Thursday (11), said that the construction of these classrooms was the result of the government's efforts to bring social and basic services closer to the population.
He said that infrastructure is the materialization of the government's five-year program, which aims to create decent conditions to guarantee quality education.
"This school comes after the government's promise in 2022. It will solve the problem of students sitting on the floor. In rainy times there were no classes. From now on, this problem has been overcome with the inauguration of this school," said Francisca Tomás.
"The population asked for it and we, as a government, assumed that an improved school would be built here. We mobilized the resources and today we are witnessing the start-up of this educational establishment."
In another development, she appealed to parents, guardians, school staff and pupils to preserve the infrastructure so that it can also serve future generations.
"The school is ours. It belongs to our children and was built by the government. Therefore, it must be preserved by all of us. We will be vigilant so that this school serves our communities for many years to come," said the governor.
He revealed that throughout the province there are still 170,000 pupils who study outdoors.
In order to minimize this drama, she revealed that other educational establishments will be inaugurated this April in the administrative posts of Cafumpe and Inchope, both in the district of Gondola.
For their part, the students can't hide their satisfaction, because the appearance of the school put an end to the suffering caused by the lack of decent classrooms, which is why they promised to keep it.
They praised the government's efforts because, as they pointed out, they were exposed to the elements such as sun, cold and rain.
The administrator of the Vanduzi district, João Pedro Amade, also thanked the government for its initiative in building the school, which will help to reduce the shortage of classrooms in that district. (Text: Mozambique Information Agency - AIM.)
