Alto Representante da União Africana satisfeito com o processo do DDR em Moçambique

Mohamed Ibn Chambas, the African Union's High Representative for the "Silencing the Guns" agenda, expressed his satisfaction with the implementation of the DDR (Demobilization, Disarmament and Reintegration) process for former Renamo guerrillas.

He expressed his satisfaction on Thursday at a courtesy meeting in the city of Beira with Cecília Chamutota, Secretary of State for Sofala Province, on the sidelines of her visit to the country to monitor the "Silencing the Guns" agenda in Africa, an initiative of the African Union's (AU) Agenda 2063.

According to the AU High Representative, this initiative aims to end all wars and conflicts, prevent genocide and end gender-based violence.

"Today is a welcome opportunity to discuss Mozambique's journey to achieve a stable and lasting peace," said the High Representative.

On that occasion, he praised the silencing of the guns in Mozambique, arguing that it is a good example in Africa, given the will and political understanding that has brought peace to the communities and pacification to the Mozambican people.

The Secretary of State in the province greeted the High Representative for his visit, and stressed that the demobilized were visibly satisfied, as they had resumed their normal lives in the community, as well as the gradual process of paying their pensions.

On Saturday (15/06), Gorongosa district hosted the ceremony marking the first anniversary of the closure of the DDR case.
