Alfredo Magumisse criticizes Ossufo Momade's relaxation as elections approach

Alfredo Magumisse critica relaxamento de Ossufo Momade face a aproximação das eleições

The deputy head of Renamo's parliamentary caucus, Alfredo Magumisse, yesterday (19) sharply criticized the party's president, Ossufo Momade. Magumisse, who was also a candidate for the presidency of Renamo, even went so far as to question or doubt whether there was any real interest in achieving positive results in the elections scheduled for October 9 this year.

In a newspaper publication SAVANAAlfredo Magumisse feels obliged to think that Ossufo Momade has no interest in making Renamo a vibrant political force and in governing the country.

The source classifies the current Renamo as a rather "amorphous, timid and fragile" party, a reality that he associates with the behavior and attitude of President Ossufo Momade.

One of the things Magumisse can't understand is why, 33 days after the congress that elected new central bodies, these party entities are completely absent and missing from any kind of political activity, given that it's an election year.

It's a strange reality. A deafening silence that raises all kinds of questions about what Renamo really wants.

"But the biggest concern at the moment has to do with the dynamics or the movement of the party. As you know, this is an election year, we have elections on October 9th. That's 33 days after the congress. Our expectation was that both the president-elect and the board elected on May 16 would start their field work, that they would be in pre-campaign mode. The public disclosure of decisions would help the party to do its pre-campaign work. Unfortunately, there is a deafening silence, which makes the party amorphous, shy and fragile," Magumisse criticized in the same publication, and then went on to say that, although he understands that there is not enough money, there are political activities and those that have a big impact on communities that don't require a lot of financial resources.

For Magumisse, this is the major concern of several Renamo members, including deputies in the Assembly of the Republic. He believes that the issues that negatively affected the party before, during and after the congress should no longer keep Renamo divided, given the challenges of today.

However, the source recognizes that a lot of ugly things happened around the congress, starting with the bans on the participation of some party members, as well as the way in which the congress took place. He was not afraid to point the finger and say that there was cheating in the election of Ossufo Momade to continue as Renamo president and presidential candidate.

However, he believes that in the search for a greater good, the members understood that they had to take into account a multiplicity of phenomena and unite around the search for electoral success for Renamo.

"The result of the congress was to set up the party's central bodies. Unfortunately, we heard, and with great sadness, how the composition was made up. A composition with a dose of revenge, exclusion, nepotism and cronyism. But, in the name of internal democracy, we decided to accept this, as long as they were Renamo members" - said Magumisse, noting that the same logic was seen in the selection of names for the provincial vote and for the Assembly of the Republic.

Faced with this reality, once again, Magumisse says that many Renamo members have left behind and put the organization's greater interests at the forefront, which is why they reiterate their concern that the elected bodies and their president are solely and exclusively locked away, without carrying out any party-political activity.

"We want to take advantage of the media, this has already been discussed internally, we've talked to many colleagues. We want the media to take the helm and go to the party's grassroots, to mobilize the masses in the run-up to the campaign. It's true that the justification is resources, but to go to Mafalala, Maxaquene, Namicopo, April 7 in Chimoio, we don't need many resources. It's an appeal. We want Renamo to win. Without Renamo, democracy will be muzzled," concluded Magumisse, whose return to the Assembly of the Republic is completely under threat, given that he is the tenth candidate in Manica province, a constituency that elects 17 deputies to the Assembly of the Republic.
