The German government will donate 100,000 doses of the Mpox vaccine to the most affected African countries.
The vaccine doses should be available "in the short term" from the German army's reserves, Steffen Hebestreit, spokesman for Chancellor Olaf Scholz, announced in Berlin, according to Observador.
The aim is to "support international efforts to contain mpox on the African continent", the source added.
Germany will therefore distribute almost all of its mpox vaccine reserves, which total 118,000 doses, according to a Defense Ministry spokesman.
In addition, a mobile laboratory will be set up in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRCongo), the country worst hit by the outbreak, as soon as possible, he added.
In the medium term, the aim is to support the African Union (AU) in setting up local vaccine production.
Mpox is a viral disease that spreads from animals to humans, but can also be transmitted between humans through physical contact, causing fever, muscle pain and skin lesions.
The resurgence in Africa is having a major impact in the Republic of Congo, DRCongo, Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda.
