Águas da Região de Maputo: Ombudsman suggests platform for dialog with consumers

Águas da Região de Maputo: Provedor de Justiça sugere plataforma de diálogo com os consumidores

The Ombudsman, Isaque Chande, suggests the creation of a platform for dialogue with the public who use the services provided by the company Águas da Região Metropolitana de Maputo (AdRMM), with a view to easily clarifying issues related to the process of production, distribution and billing of drinking water in the Greater Maputo region.

The suggestion was made during a working visit, on Friday, August 18, to the Sábié Water Treatment Plant (WTP), in Maputo province, with the aim of finding out how this drinking water production unit works.

On the occasion, Isaque Chande acknowledged that the company's efforts to provide the water supply service aim to contribute to improving the human development index in our country.

"I recommend that the company finds a way to be closer to its customers and that it also discusses with the competent authorities how to make the service sustainable. From what we've seen on the ground, the process involves large sums of money, which is why the tariffs have to be fair and reasonable," said Isaque Chande.

For his part, the chairman of AdRMM's Board of Directors, Castigo Álvaro Cossa, explained that the company is currently committed to making water the source of development in Mozambique, and that it also aims to achieve universal coverage of the drinking water supply service by 2024.

"We shared with the Ombudsman the challenges we have with customers in terms of complaints, billing and water quality. We showed our strategy and what kind of initiatives we have in mind so that the consumer doesn't have to spend a lot of time going to the service desks, because through technological solutions, the customer already has the possibility of interacting, asking, providing and finding answers through digital platforms, using artificial intelligence. We have to inform more and be closer to the customer," concluded the PCA.

It should be noted that by 2024 the AdRMM company will have installed just over three hundred thousand pre-paid meters for customers in the Greater Maputo region so that they can self-manage their consumption of the precious liquid.
