A police officer from the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) committed suicide after losing around 45,000 meticais in a game of chance, known as aviator, in the district of Funhalouro, Inhambane province.
The money he had invested in the aviator game was a loan from a private individual, with a promise to pay it back in less than two weeks. However, according to the authorities, this time he wasn't so lucky, as the agent used to invest large sums of money, on other occasions winning double the amount invested.
According to the PRM, the 24-year-old agent, who was assigned to the Funhalouro District Command, felt pressured by the owner of the money and decided to end his life as a way of getting rid of the debt.
Quoted by Rádio Moçambique, the head of the Public Relations Department at the PRM Provincial Command in Inhambane, Nércia Bata, lamented the death of the young policeman and discouraged gambling.
It should be noted that this is not the first case of citizens deciding to end their lives because of an aviator game.
