In order to prevent and respond quickly to cholera, Mozambique has just received 4,000 doses of vaccine from the Egyptian Development Partnership Agency.
The donation comes at a time when the health authorities are stepping up their preparedness measures to prevent the outbreak of the disease in the coming rainy and cyclonic season.
Quoted by Notícias Haitham Shousha, from the Egyptian Embassy in Maputo, said that the donation given to the Ministry of Health (MISAU) reflects the strength of bilateral relations, based on fraternity, friendship and mutual assistance.
He indicated that a second batch of medical aid from Egypt will arrive in the next few days, including more immunizers and medical supplies.
"These ties go back to the common history of the two countries, when Egypt supported Mozambique in the struggle for independence and now in overcoming common challenges," he said
Since October 2023 Mozambique has recorded 16,544 cases of cholera, with 38 deaths, corresponding to a case fatality rate of 0.2%. In the same period, 12,880 people were hospitalized, most of whom were discharged.
With the exception of Maputo City, Gaza and Inhambane, the other provinces have registered cases of cholera.( Source: Notícias)
