In less than eight months, monkeypox has killed more than 600 people, infected more than 3,600 and there are more than 15 suspected cases on the African continent.
The data is contained in the latest report from the African Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the CDC.
Also according to the report, which is quoted by "O País", 22,863 cases have been reported so far, of which 3,641 have been confirmed and 19,222 are pending analysis results, in 13 African countries, namely: Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo-Brazzaville, Ivory Coast, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Liberia, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Uganda and South Africa, the latter bordering Mozambique.
The African Union agency said it expects the first doses of the vaccine to arrive at the beginning of September in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where there are the highest number of cases.
The Africa CDC declared Mpox a public health emergency of continental concern on August 13.
