South Africa invests one million dollars to modernize land borders

South Africa, through a public-private partnership, will invest around one million dollars to modernize six of the country's land borders, including Lebombo with Mozambique.

The project will also cover the borders of Breitbridge, with Zimbabwe; the Maseru Bridge and the Fickburg post, between South Africa and the Kingdom of Lesotho; Kopfontein, with Botswana; and Oshoek, with the Kingdom of Eswatini.

The money is part of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) project preparation fund at the Development Bank of South Africa, for the new border modernization programme, and the project is still subject to approval by the National Treasury.

According to the NewsThe call for tenders ends in March next year, with modernization work due to start in 2026.

The authorities say that the project aims to facilitate commercial transactions between SADC countries, prevent the illegal transit of people and goods, and improve migratory movement between nations.
