South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that the end of the energy crisis is finally near.
Cyril Ramaphosa, speaking this Thursday during the State of the Nation report, assured that the worst is over and is the result of efforts to restructure the sector.
"We have established a clear plan to end the energy crisis, which we have been implementing through the National Energy Crisis Committee," said the South African President.
"We have delivered on our commitments to bring substantial new energy onto the grid through private investment, which is already helping to reduce the energy supply crisis," Ramaphosa added.
The South African President also announced a plan to build more than 14,000 kilometers of new transmission lines to accommodate renewable energy sources.
South Africa has been facing an electricity crisis for almost two years now, and has even reduced the power supply on a scheduled basis, sometimes for 12 hours a day.
