Adriano Maleiane says the government is acting to contain the rising cost of living

The government says that the increase in inflation from 6.65% in 2022 to 10.8% last March and the rise in the prices of basic products are clear indicators of the worsening cost of living.

According to the Prime Minister, Adriano Maleiane, the international economic situation is affecting our country, which is aggravated by the negative impacts of terrorist actions in some districts of Cabo Delgado and by the effects of extreme weather events. "The combination of these exogenous and endogenous factors has put pressure on the prices of products and services in the domestic market," said Maleiane.

Speaking in Parliament today, the Prime Minister said that there are already economic measures in place to reverse the trend of rising living costs in the country.

"Some of these measures are the reduction of the VAT rate from 17% to 16%; the VAT exemption for the import of agricultural inputs and electrification and the reduction of the IRPC rate from 32% to 10 % in the agricultural, aquaculture and urban passenger transport sectors," said the Prime Minister.

Tomorrow, Thursday, the government returns to Parliament for a session of insistence questions.
