A 16-year-old girl faked and simulated a kidnapping in order to extort money from her parents in the city of Matola, Maputo province.
According to Rádio Moçambique, the girl disappeared from her home and allegedly met two men who sexually assaulted her.
She allegedly asked a third person, whom she actually met on the street, to inform her parents that she had been kidnapped and to demand ransom money.
Carmínea Leite, spokeswoman for the Mozambique Republic Police in Maputo province, said that the girl had intended to lie to her parents about an alleged physical assault on the public highway.
"The citizen refused to hit the minor. And the minor asked for the citizen's phone number. She sent messages to her father asking for a ransom of 20,000 meticais. The citizen and the minor went to the local authorities and explained the case. The head of the block sent them both to the police station and at the moment the police are working to verify the facts," he explained.
On the other hand, the spokeswoman revealed that the PRM had arrested two individuals accused of stealing two vehicles in the Boquisso neighborhood. They were captured in the village of Ressano Garcia, in the town of Moamba.
