Maputo National Park Administrator wins International Conservation Award

Administrador do Parque Nacional de Maputo vence Prémio Internacional sobre Conservação

Mozambican Miguel Gonçalves, administrator of the Maputo National Park (PNM), is the winner of the "Tusk Conservation Awards 2022". The distinction was delivered this Tuesday in London, United Kingdom, during the tenth gala.

This award is given to personalities who distinguish themselves for their contribution to Conservation. Gonçalves competed in the final against administrators from Kenya and Tanzania.

The general directorate of ANAC (National Administration of Conservation Areas) congratulated the laureate, praising his commitment to the preservation of terrestrial and marine ecosystems.

Gonçalves has worked at Maputo National Park since 2008, and over the past 12 years has contributed to transforming this resort from a hunting ground to a landscape capable of supporting wildlife and restoring ecosystems, both in the ocean and on land.

"I believe in the work I do with passion. I can see the difference the team has made in the last 12 years and the impact we have had on the surrounding communities, who are our main partners in the landscape," said Miguel Gonçalves.

The 10th edition of the award comes at a time when major global meetings on biodiversity are being prepared, most notably the CITES conference in Panama this month and the UN Biodiversity Conference in Canada in December.
