Adelino Timóteo launches the book "library under the city"

Adelino Timóteo lança o livro “biblioteca debaixo da cidade”

The Portuguese Cultural Center in Maputo is hosting the launch of the book "A biblioteca debaixo da cidade" (The library under the city), the latest book by Adelino Timóteo, a writer from Beira. The book will be presented by Celso Muianga.

According to Carla Ferreira, a lecturer at the Federal University of São Carlos (Brazil): "Susana's secret, presented through the life of her husband Mendes dos Remédios, brings illustrious and ordinary characters, in their humanity and intimacy, into a plot masterfully crafted through metalanguage: the narrative presents a combination of genres such as letters, poems, diary pages; it reflects on the making of poetry, on the functions and repercussions of a book in its materiality; and it deals brilliantly with intertextuality.

The prose also combines a tone of 19th century realism with a contemporary style, which makes Adelino Timóteo an author who ennobles his country's literature, pushes its geographical boundaries and stands alongside the great names in literature today.

His fiction, which moves between the local and the global, reveals what António Cândido says when he writes that "although a child of the world, the work is a world.

In The Library Under the City, Adelino offers us the recalibrated pleasure that great literary works contain within themselves. It's therefore compulsory, essential and highly enjoyable reading."
