Thirteen people died and another seven were injured as a result of a road accident this morning in the district of Morrumbene, Inhambane province. The two-vehicle collision involved a mini-bus carrying passengers on the Maxixe/Massinga route and an articulated lorry.
The lightly injured were transported to the Morrumbene Health Center, where they are receiving medical assistance, while the seriously injured are at the Chicuque Rural Hospital in the town of Maxixe.
In addition to the deaths and injuries, the accident caused extensive damage to the minibus in which all the victims were travelling.
In a NewsThe commander of the PRM in Morrumbene, Berta Felisberto Foquisso, said that the driver of the minibus was among the dead. She explained that the deceased was driving at high speed.
"The accident was caused by the 'chapa', which, after bursting one of its tires, crashed head-on into the truck that was traveling north/south along the National Road Number One (N1)."
