Car accident kills four people on EN2

One adult and three children lost their lives following a road accident on National Road number 2 (EN2) last Saturday night, in the district of Namaacha, Maputo province.

According to Rádio Moçambique, the accident was caused by a car that was carrying 25 minors, aged between nine and 17, who were socializing in the region.

The accident also injured another 16 minors, eight of whom are in a serious condition and are being treated at Matola Provincial Hospital and others in the Namaacha district.

Speeding is indicated as the main cause of the accident by the spokeswoman for the Mozambique Republic Police, Carmínia Leite.

"There was a road accident involving an Izuzu car. The causes of the accident are presumed to have been excessive speed and drink-driving. Four people died at the scene and eight were seriously injured", he said.

According to the father of one of the victims, who was seriously injured, the accident happened at around 10pm.
