Absa Bank Mozambique has joined the United Nations Global Compact as a way to ensure that, in the scope of its activities, it is aligned with the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as with the relevant national and international policies on these matters.
According to Absa's CEO, Rui Barros, quoted in the communiqué sent to our editors, by becoming a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact, the bank will be able to conduct its sustainability agenda in a better structured way.
"[This] reinforces our commitment to the explicit fulfillment of each of the Ten Principles" being that it will entail "an increasing number of initiatives aligned with the SDGs, a journey, however, that Absa started years ago and that now enters a new phase of consolidation," Barros said.
With this adhesion to the Principles of the United Nations Global Compact, the Bank subscribes to the principles and initiatives aligned with its commitments and strategy.
The United Nations Global Compact is an initiative launched by former Secretary-General Kofi Annan and continued by the current Secretary-General, António Guterres, with the aim of attracting the business community to adopt values linked to human rights, labor practices, environmental protection, and fighting corruption.
