Absa Bank innovates in the process of selecting candidates for the Graduate Program 2023

Absa Bank inova no processo de selecção dos candidatos ao Programa de Graduados 2023

Absa Bank Mozambique, committed to the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 agenda, has developed a specialized program as part of its Graduate Program to prepare young people for the banking sector.

After the first phase of selecting participants for the 2023 program, the bank has started the interview phase to recruit new talent for a 10-month program at the bank.

This year, the institution decided to begin a process of specialized training in the area of Information Technology (IT), ensuring that at the end of this period it has professionals qualified to enter banking, with solid knowledge of the market and the ability to apply the theoretical knowledge they have acquired in their academic life.

Inspired by its Africanicity, the institution has tried to adjust some projects to the new challenges and so the recent IT graduates had a different selection process, showing the best of themselves and their ability to express themselves in front of a larger audience, by developing a speech instead of the traditional interview.

Aware of the importance of developing disruptive actions in the banking sector, the People and Culture Department, in synergy with Information Technology, recognizes that: "We are creating qualified IT resources not only for our bank, but also for the sector and society in general. These are areas of expertise that are in high demand in the market and that's why it's important for us to develop them," says Hanifa Hassangy, the bank's People and Culture Director.

"The normal process of joining the program, or even applying for a job, involves various dynamics such as interviews and other selection mechanisms, but this time we wanted to expose them to an approach similar to Shark Tank and the pitch process (a method most commonly used in the world of start-ups and entrepreneurship) so that, in addition to their CVs, they have other technical skills such as communication. It's a different approach and one that aims to prepare candidates for the great challenges of an ever-changing world," added Jaikumar Sathish, Director of Information Technology.

Absa Bank Moçambique is thus embarking on a new and distinctive path in the process of specialized training and integrating new talent into the market.
