The ball that Diego Maradona 'headed' to score the controversial goal against England in the World Cup in Mexico in 1986 will be auctioned next month. Values can reach three million euros, reports the sports newspaper "A Bola".
The famous goal entitled "hand of God" helped Argentina win the tournament, eliminating England in the quarterfinals 2-1, and went down in soccer history as one of the most controversial goals scored in a world cup. Can FIFA invalidate this title?
According to the newspaper, the match referee Ali Bin Nasser, who kept the ball, will auction the object with the British company Graham Budd Auctions in November.
"This ball is part of international soccer history, it seems like the right time to share it with the world," the Tunisian referee explained, as quoted by the Journal.
Note that six months ago the jersey that Maradona wore during that same match was sold for about seven million euros, after it was put up for auction by former England player Steve Hodge, who swapped shirts with the Argentine legend at the end of the match.
