2026 World Cup qualification: Mozambique to face Uganda in Egypt

The match between the Mozambique and Uganda national soccer teams, scheduled for March 20, will be played on one of the fields in Cairo, the capital of Egypt.

This is the first alternative identified by the executive board of the Mozambican Football Federation (FMF) in light of the rejection of the Zimpeto National Stadium by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which was officially announced last Tuesday.

However, yesterday, Wednesday (05), according to a publication from the Challenge newspaperThe president of the FMF, Feizal Sidat, said that a letter has already been sent to the Egyptian counterpart and a response is awaited, and he also mentioned Algeria as a second possibility.

"We are confident of a positive response from the Egyptian federation. Our plans indicate that we can leave Maputo for Cairo on the 17th. Another alternative will be Algeria, where we'll play our sixth match," said Sidat.

It should be noted that on the fifth matchday, on March 20, while the Mambas host Uganda on loan, Algeria visit Botswana and Guinea Conakry visit Somalia.

On the sixth matchday, the first of the second round, the Mambas travel to Algeria on Tuesday, March 25, Botswana host Somalia and Uganda play Guinea at home.

In the league table, Algeria and Mozambique share the lead with nine points, followed by Botswana, Uganda and Guinea Conakry, all on six points, in a group in which Somalia has yet to score.

The regulations state that only the winner of each of the nine groups qualifies directly for the 2026 World Cup.
