Five people died as a result of a road accident on Friday morning in Manhiça district, Maputo province.

The accident involved a passenger car, which crashed into a broken-down truck parked on the side of national road number one (EN1), according to Radio Mocambique.

Inside the car were 20 passengers, five of whom died on the spot.

Of the 15 patients admitted to the Manhiça district hospital, six have serious injuries, according to information provided by the unit's chief medical officer.

The lack of signage was one of the causes of the accident, said a traffic police officer.
