Terrorism in Cabo Delgado, the actions of the Naparamas in Zambezia and the demonstrations taking place all over the country could constitute a danger to public security, according to the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo.
"We have to overcome three major challenges that could jeopardize our healthy coexistence and social harmony, namely the armed attacks by terrorists in Cabo Delgado, coupled with the recruitment of children, boys and girls into the ranks of terrorists; the attacks with white weapons at localized points in the province of Zambézia, by the Naparamas and other groups with some organization who are trying to block vital routes for the development of our country; and the continuing attempt to install chaos characterized by illegal and violent demonstrations, with no announced date or time," he said today during the swearing in of the new deputy commander general of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM), Aquilasse Kapangula Manda.
Criminal actions affect the free movement of people and goods, and according to Chapo, if left unchecked "could degenerate into a threat to our collective security".
In this sense, the President of the Republic advocated collaboration between private entities and the PRM whenever the situation demands and justifies it.
"We must capitalize on the emblematic police-community link that has long proved to be an effective mechanism for preventing crime in our communities," he noted.
