PRM recovers six weapons stolen during demonstrations in Nampula

The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) announced on Tuesday (11) the recovery of at least six weapons belonging to the Ministry of the Interior, which had been stolen during demonstrations in Nampula province, northern Mozambique.

According to a Success TVOne of the detainees, found with some of the weapons, said that he was in possession of five guns, while the sixth was with a friend, a PODEMOS party sympathizer. The young man also revealed that the weapons had been taken from the PRM's 3rd Police Station.

According to the detainee, the group had taken the weapons to defend themselves against the police, who, he said, were shooting at the demonstrators.

The PRM, at Nampula city level, reported that it had neutralized two young men involved in vandalizing the police station.

The head of the Public Relations department at the Nampula PRM provincial command, Dércio Samuel, confirmed to the press the recovery of six firearms, all stolen in the Namicopo neighborhood, precisely from the 3rd and 5th Police Stations.

"On December 23, 2024, an unspecified group, masked, armed with two AK47-type firearms and blunt, sharp and cutting instruments, went to the 3rd police station where they fatally shot a member of the PRM who was on duty and set fire to the building and a vehicle," the source recalls, continuing that "on January 7, the individuals were arrested, one of them was recovered in his possession with an AK47-type firearm.
