Chapo wants everyone involved in celebrating 50 years of independence

Chapo quer envolvimento de todos nas celebração dos 50 anos de independência

On Monday morning in Maputo City, the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, urged all Mozambicans to get involved in the preparations for the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of national independence, as a way of valuing the achievements of those who contributed to the foundation of the Mozambican state.

"May each of us, in our community, association, organization, in our district, administrative posts, in the localities of our province, be involved in creative initiatives to celebrate this great moment in our history as a nation," said the Head of State during his speech.

Chapo also said that the state will continue to recognize the role of the Veterans of the National Liberation Struggle and the Combatants for the Defense of Sovereignty and Democracy, as well as their full integration into the country's economic and social activities.

Also in his speech, the President of the Republic argued that the construction of the State has been a great epic, whose march intersects with principles intrinsic to national unity, "which continues to be and will always be the secret of our success".

Daniel Chapo recalled that Mondlane's funeral, on February 6, 69, had the military honors of a head of state. Thousands of people even walked to the cemetery where he was buried to pay homage to Mondlane, a historical figure "who fully embodied the struggle for Mozambique's national independence".

For Chapo, celebrating February 3, the Day of Mozambican Heroes, also means fulfilling a patriotic duty to honor the memory of all those who fought and continue to fight for a better Mozambique.

He stressed that it was with a sense of sacrifice that some, like Eduardo Mondlane, offered their lives for the foundation of the state, which for many was unlikely.

Monday's celebrations therefore served to pay tribute to all of Mozambique's heroes.
