EU observer mission defends Venâncio Mondlane's inclusion in political dialog

Missão de observação da UE defende inclusão de Venâncio Mondlane no diálogo político

The European Union Observation Mission (EU EOM) to the general elections in Mozambique advocates the inclusion of Venâncio Mondlane, the second most voted presidential candidate, in the so-called political dialogue underway.

The position was conveyed to journalists by the head of the mission, Laura Ballarín, after delivering last week in Maputo the conclusions of the Final Observation Report to the head of state, Daniel Chapo, who was elected in the vote on October 9, with the conclusions of two months of observing the process, pointing out various irregularities and discrepancies that affected the integrity of the election results.

In a publication by VOALaura Ballarin reiterated Venâncio Mondlane's inclusion in the so-called political dialogue, which was initiated by former President Filipe Nyusi and which Daniel Chapo has continued, but only with the political parties.

"Our message to all the political actors we have met has been the same: the political dialogue that can bring about a political and peaceful solution for Mozambique must be inclusive, that is, Venâncio Mondlane must be at that table," concluded Laura Ballarin.

Among several recommendations, the European observers pointed to the revision of the country's Electoral Law and a restructuring of the electoral administration at all levels.
