In Niassa province, six people have died and another 63 have been injured since the start of the rainy season, victims of extreme natural events.
The destruction of homes and lightning strikes are the causes of deaths and injuries in different districts of the province, according to sources quoted by Rádio Moçambique.
Also during this period, nearly 8,000 people were affected by rain and strong winds, natural phenomena that partially or totally destroyed homes, leaving hundreds of families homeless.
The districts of Nipepe, Maúa, Metarica and Lago are said to be the worst affected, according to Isabel Cavo, delegate of the National Institute for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (INGD) in Niassa, speaking to Rádio Moçambique.
The source said that the demand for shelter kits to rebuild homes represents one of the biggest challenges for families who have been victims of natural disasters.
