Portugal wants to strengthen parliamentary relations with Mozambique

Portugal quer estreitar relações parlamentares com Moçambique

Portugal's ambassador, António Moura, met with the head of Frelimo's parliamentary caucus, Feliz Sílvia, and expressed his intention to strengthen parliamentary relations with Mozambique.

"We've been discussing new avenues of cooperation on Portugal's part, what kind of improvements we can make to cooperation between parliaments, and then making the embassy completely open to constant dialogue," said the ambassador.

On the party's side, the intention is to take advantage of Portugal's experience to create a court of accounts at parliamentary level to improve oversight of public accounts.

"The Assembly of the Republic has the prerogative to make the political judgment of public accounts," said Feliz Sílvia, stressing the need to make the most of the mechanisms available to build a parliament "geared towards the concerns of the population".

The Portuguese ambassador assured that other meetings will be held with parties with parliamentary seats, including Podemos, Renamo and the Democratic Movement of Mozambique. (RM e Notícias)
