The New Democracy (ND) party believes that the politician Venâncio Mondlane is the central figure to whom all political dialogue efforts should be directed with a view to restoring peace in the country.
"We welcome the return of Venâncio Mondlane, an essential figure in the dialog for peace. We emphasize that the dialogue needs to be directed towards Mondlane and all Mozambicans of good faith, in the search for an authentic and inclusive reconciliation," reads a press release.
The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, has already held two meetings with leaders of political parties with parliamentary seats, including the extra-parliamentary ND, with the aim of finding solutions for restoring peace. The first meeting, of the same scope, to which Venâncio Mondlane was invited, did not take place due to his absence. On Thursday he returned to the country and said that he wants to break the narrative that the talks are not progressing because he is not present.
"As part of the dialogue table, we reaffirm that a true political dialogue for peace and reconciliation is impossible while Mozambicans are persecuted, imprisoned and murdered for dreaming of a just and democratic country," reads the document.
Nevertheless, ND says it will remain at the dialogue table, defending, among other things, the non-recognition of the election results proclaimed by the Constitutional Council.
The party urges the population to advance in the struggle for their rights in order to re-found the Mozambican state.
