PRM denounces PODEMOS plan to cause chaos in Mozambique

PRM denuncia plano do PODEMOS que pretende provocar o caos em Moçambique

The spokesman for the General Command of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM), Orlando Mudumane, denounced on Saturday (07) a plan by several demonstrators to break into several police stations to release detainees from jails, and steal weapons.

According to Mudumane, this action is being orchestrated by militants and supporters of PODEMOS, the party backing presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane.

According to the spokesman for the general command of the police, the plan was also to get these prisoners to take part in "subversive" actions.

"The defence and security forces have credible information that reveals that over the weekend PODEMOS members and sympathizers intend to attack and vandalize strategic and vital state objects, as well as police sub-units and penitentiary establishments, with the sole aim of seizing war material and removing prisoners to join the groups that carry out subversive actions," explained Orlando Mudumane, in a publication by the RFI.

The source warned that "such premeditated attacks and vandalizations will merit an appropriate reaction in accordance with the facts and the law of the Defence and Security Forces".

The spokesman also said that children, teenagers and people who are demented or drunk are being used in "supposed protests that don't respect legislation and the rule of law".

According to the electoral platform Decide, at least 90 people have died and 300 have been shot by the police since the start of the post-election protests.
