Protesters close road leading to MOZAL after teenager fatally shot

Manifestantes fecham estrada que dá acesso a MOZAL após o baleamento mortal de um adolescente

The demonstrators decided in the early hours of Thursday (05) to set up barricades and burn tires on the viaduct that joins National Road number 4 (N4), the main road used by MOZAL to transport aluminum from the plant to the Port of Maputo for export markets, in protest at the fatal shooting of a 13-year-old minor by plainclothes police..

The minor, according to the AIMHe was standing on the side of the road with protesters.

The situation enraged the local community, which mobilized en masse to demand justice, shutting down traffic on that stretch of road.

As a result, the company has temporarily suspended the movement of its trucks carrying aluminum on that route, an embarrassing situation for the smelter, which has unavoidable commitments to its customers.

The road remained closed until 10pm, with protesters sitting on the road, playing music and entertaining themselves with various kinds of games, demanding that the police officer who shot the minor in question be handed over as a condition for reopening the road.
