Lúcia Ribeiro rejects "outright" proposal to annul elections

Lúcia Ribeiro rejeita “liminarmente” proposta de anulação de eleições

The President of the Constitutional Council, Lúcia Ribeiro, is said to have rejected "outright" a proposal by the judges to annul the October 2024 general elections.

The truth is that the whole world already knows that that ballot was full of fraud, not least because this seems to be the main reason for the current social situation in Mozambique.

According to the weekly, Mozambique Channel of November 20, 2024Ribeiro's idea is to reduce some of the votes for the Frelimo candidate, Daniel Chapo, and redistribute them among the opposition, including seats in the Assembly of the Republic.

Regardless of the outcome of the ruling, Frelimo and its candidate will remain in power.

The newspaper notes that the electoral flaws that led to the results announced by the National Electoral Commission (CNE) have been criticized by the international "donor/financier" community, which has called on the CC to evaluate with due caution the disputes submitted to the body, seeking electoral truth or the annulment of the elections "if necessary".

In the CC "Electoral Court" itself, there are judges who suggest that the elections be annulled in order to restore social peace and the country's image in the international community.

The weekly notes that it is only up to the CC whether the results tabulation processes obeyed the law and the natural logic of things. If they did, the CC orders the elections to be validated. If not, it orders that they not be validated and that the votes be recounted or annulled.

If these elections are validated, the country could see its social situation evolve to unmanageable levels, the source said.

"The President of the Constitutional Council apparently doesn't care about these explanations. She wants Daniel Chapo and Frelimo to be declared winners. In recent days, Lúcia Ribeiro has been a constant visitor to Filipe Nyusi's office, which has created unease among the judges," he writes, noting that the last time she was there was on the morning of November 14.

And more: Lúcia Ribeiro is a member of the Frelimo party and a comrade of Filipe Nyusi. Their children married each other. They have common business interests.
