Zambézia: Renamo members demand resignation of provincial political delegate

Zambézia: Membros da Renamo exigem demissão do delegado político provincial

Since Tuesday (19), some Renamo members have been demanding the resignation of the political formation's provincial political delegate, Inácio Reis, alleging a lack of cooperation and a ban on demonstrating.

The group, made up of heads of local authority posts in Quelimane, is asking Reis to explain whether the bans were ordered by the party's central leadership.

"We want you to leave for good rather than create unrest in the province. We're losing more and more members. Almost two months after the elections, you're the only party that hasn't said anything," said one of the members quoted by STV.

Reis reacted and said that what was said by the members does not mean that the party is happy with the situation. According to Reis, all Renamo members and sympathizers must obey a single command of the political formation.

"They have to bow down and obey. That's why we wouldn't have got as far as we have," he said, warning that he had not forbidden anyone from demonstrating.

"I don't have the capacity to forbid them from demonstrating. There are 22 districts, and the only one that is marching is Quelimane. And, at a national level, Renamo is not going out to demonstrate. That doesn't mean being in favor of the results that were scheduled by the National Electoral Commission," he noted.

According to Reis, Renamo has analyzed the current situation of the demonstrations in the country and has chosen to remain on its side. He considered the possibility of blaming the party in the event of a breakdown in the demonstrations, which could involve several parties.
