Paula Cristina Roque, a Portuguese specialist in African affairs, argues that the time has come for the Frelimo party to leave power.
In an interview with CNN PortugalHe said that Venâncio Mondlane's idea of setting up a National Unity Government was viable, noting, however, that it should be a "transition for Frelimo to leave".
According to Roque, the institutions in Mozambique are partisan, the economy is based on clientelism, and there are economic interests embedded in Frelimo's political elites. She advocated the reform of all state institutions.
"This won't be done solely with a government of national unity," he said, adding that there will have to be a structural systemic reform at the political and economic level.
"The most important thing to note is that Frelimo has been governing for several decades. It has failed [in governance]. They should serve and they don't. And it's going to have to leave. I think it should leave now," he said.
From the point of view of the specialist in African affairs, the "absence" of international organizations is notorious, and she said that they should adopt a bolder stance in the face of the situation.
"They didn't defend this electoral truth in Angola, because of other interests. They will have to do so now [in Mozambique]. In this case we have to be different, defend democracy and freedom," he said of Portugal's position.
According to Roque, the parties' parallel counts must be given credibility, as they are yet another force for international organizations to better position themselves.
