Two ambulances from Maputo Central Hospital were attacked with stones and other objects while providing emergency services.
According to a Miramar TVCiting HCM sources, the first vehicle was hit by stones along Julius Nyerere Avenue in the Hulene neighborhood at around 7 p.m. and had to retreat.
The driver then turned onto Avenida Cândido Mondlane, where he was intercepted by a group of demonstrators who had blocked the road. As it was a high-suspension vehicle, he climbed over the curb to get ahead, but as he continued, more stones were thrown at the vehicle.
When he arrived in Intaka, he encountered another obstacle and was attacked again.
Another case happened near Maquinag, when an ambulance was asked to pick up a patient from Matola Provincial Hospital. On the way there, the vehicle was stoned and, on the way back, it was attacked again.
Two other ambulances were also attacked in the city of Maputo.
According to the HCM, the scenario is beginning to limit the transfer of patients and generates fear among health professionals who, despite working for life, are also under attack.
